What information does Anera need in order to make a design?

Anera prefers to receive drawings of the building. This can be a 2D drawing (AutoCAD, for example) or a 3D model.

No building data available? That happens quite often, particularly with existing premises. In that case Anera can carry out a 3D scan on site. This captures the existing situation precisely, so the structure can be designed to suit the actual conditions – fitting exactly into your space, even where there are obstacles or existing installations.

For a quotation or price indication, a sketch of the situation with a few photographs is enough.

  1. How do I know whether my building is suitable for a mezzanine floor?

    In principle, a building is suitable for a mezzanine floor if it has a concrete floor for the structure to stand on and enough clear height to create an additional level.

    Two starting points apply to the height. Under Dutch building regulations, the minimum clear height both beneath and on top of a floor is 2.3 metres. On top of that comes the thickness of the floor structure itself. As a rule of thumb, Anera therefore works with a total clear height of at least 5.5 to 6 metres in order to create a usable extra level.

  2. What can I use a mezzanine floor for?

    A mezzanine floor is a structural floor that can be used for virtually any purpose. Most are used to create additional storage space.

    Other common applications from Anera's practice include:

    • Additional workstations;
    • Extra floor space in a shop;
    • Office space inside an industrial hall;
    • Automation, such as conveyor systems and robots;
    • Maintenance platforms to give access to machinery;
    • Other logistics functions.

    Whichever application you have in mind, the floor is designed for each individual situation around its intended use and the corresponding load.

  3. When is a mezzanine floor not the right solution?

    In most situations a mezzanine floor is perfectly feasible; Anera rarely advises against one. The main exception is a highly corrosive environment, such as a chemical plant.

    In these environments stainless steel structures are usually required, and that is not Anera's specialism. For virtually every other situation there is a suitable solution: Anera works with cold-formed steel wherever possible, but also has the expertise and production capability for hot-rolled structures or a combination of the two (hybrid). This way, the best solution is chosen for each individual situation.

    There is also a practical limit for very heavy loads: from roughly 1,500 kg per square metre upwards, the standard building system is no longer a good fit and a conventional steel structure makes more sense (see also the question on load capacity).
